About

Weld Strength App for Mechanical

The EDRMedeso app Weld Strength is a toolkit to speed up pre-and post-processing of welded assemblies in Ansys Mechanical according to Eurocode 3 and DNV.
Pre-processing features :

  • Weld Contacts Automation
  • Contact Match Automation
  • Fillet Weld creation

Post-processing features :

  • Fillet weld strength
  • Butt weld strength
  • User defined weld codes can be defined in the app using the Python API

Weld Contacts and Match Automation ; creates contacts for all weld parts in the model with correct settings for weld strength calculation and optional perform contact mesh imprint. Weld Contacts and Match Automation

Fillet weld creation ; creates solid weld mesh (and contacts) without the need of CAD geometry. Weld size and intermittent spacing can be used in optimization together with the weld strength utilization and weld seam length and mass.

Weld geometry can be exported as solid geometry or weld seam lines for use in Space Claim or Design Modeler or external CAD program.

Weld Strength ; uses the directional method for evaluation the weld strength utilization (Eurocode 3).

The app can evaluate both fillet and butt welds for all types of FE-models according to the following figure.

The power of the app is that in one result object the user can evaluate multiple chains of welds over multiple load cases ("maximum over time" and "time of maximum") and plot the result on the model as a floating average or as a section average. Results include weld stress components (equivalent and normal stress), utilization, thickness, section length and section force intensity. All results are also written to a text file for reporting purpose and a csv file for path plotting or other external post processing tasks.
